Archaeology Department of Ankara University offers a wide training in archaeology thanks to its qualified academic staff.
Related departments of Archaeology Department were under Archaeology and Art History Department in 1980s. In 2000 Art History became an independent department and Archaeology Department continued education in three independent programs until 2002. As a result of High Education Board’s decision to gather all Archaeology programs in Turkey under one roof, Ankara University began implementing a common undergraduate program and continued it for 7 years. Archaeology Department has continued education in three departments, which include different disciplines, since 2009 with formal applications of our department and approval of High Education Board.
The students can choose from a wide course content about comparative archeology of all Mediterranean and surrounding culture regions primarily Anatolia beginning from Paleolithic Age to end of Roman period.
