DEPARTMENT OF CAUCASIAN LANGUAGES AND CULTURES
Department of Caucasian Languages and Cultures was established as part of Ankara University Faculty of Languages, History and Geography according to Article 7/d-2 of Law No 2547 amended by 288 Numbered Law at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Council of Higher Education on 19.06.1992. In the current situation, Department of Armenian Language and Culture is the only branch in Department of Caucasian Language and Culture.
In 1991 after SSRU had disintegrated new countries emerged in the northwest of Turkey, in Caucasus. The Caucasus is a significant geography in terms of geostrategic, geopolitics, geoeconomic, geocultural and sociocultural factors. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs conducted in Department of Caucasus Languages and Cultures are prepared considering significance of the region and the research subjects of a philology. Within this regard, the goal of Department of Caucasus Languages and Cultures is to enable to carry out educating and researching in a wide range in order to keep up with and maintain international standarts in academic research, idea creation, researches and professional activities. Department of Caucasus Languages and Cultures adopts the principle of bearing Turkey’s social life mision adopted by Ankara University.
Department of Armenian Language and Culture is the first one to provide education on Eastern Armenian and the only one to provide education at postgraduate level.
Having fullfilled the first step of its first goal of educating future academics, researchers, translators and required experts of Armenian Language and Cultures field since it has been founded, Department of Caucasian Languages and Cultures has also completed the preparations for activating the undergraduate program of Department of Armenian Language and Culture in 2018-2019 academic year.
