Korean Language and Literature Department was established in 1989. It is the first department of Korean Studies in Turkey. The quota of the department has gradually increased since 2006 from 10 students to 40 students.
Researches on the Korean language, Korean literature, Korean history, and Korean culture are conducted in the field of Korean Language and Literature Department. The aim of the department is to contribute to the cultivation of individuals who are equipped and able to conduct academic research in the field of Korea, and also to help our graduates reach a sufficient level to find jobs related to Korea in the future.
Apart from the undergraduate program, there are also graduate programs within the Institute of Social Sciences. Our Department is cooperating with many different universities and institutes in Korea. The Korean Language and Literature Department exchanges students between many higher education institutions in Korea under the exchange programs and the Mevlana Exchange Programs.
Successful students studying at the Department of Korean Language and Literature are sent as exchange students every year with different scholarship opportunities to partner universities in Korea. In addition, our students can have the opportunity to study in Korea after graduation through scholarships given by the Korean government. Also, students who study at our graduate school are offered the opportunity to conduct research in Korea with different scholarship programs.
Students who graduate from the Korean Language and Literature Department can work at public institutions such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korean Embassy, Consulate, Turkey Radio and Television Corporation, Ministry of Tourism etc. or can work at Korean companies, companies established with Korea partnership, a variety of airline and tourism sectors. In addition, as of 2017, the Korean language was included in the curriculum of the Ministry of National Education as a second foreign language, and our students became entitled to training in order to become a teacher.
